About me

Alverina Eka Weinardy is a practicing interior designer with professional experience in commercial development and single-family homes.

Previously, Alverina was a designer at Saida + Sullivan Design Partners working on several multi-family housing projects throughout San Francisco. She joined the Mineta Transportation Institute (MTI) as a research assistant in 2017. She is currently responsible for MTI graphic design work. As a designer, she strives to deliver projects that address the clients’ needs as well as the end users’ quality of life improvements. In both her research and design projects, Alverina is always working towards a more sustainable living environment.

Alverina grew up in Indonesia, an archipelago with hundreds of native cultures. Her parents' traveling hobby took her to many of these islands as well as other countries, which broadened her exposure to art and architecture as a form of cultural expression. Alverina majored in visual arts in high school. While the overarching theme of her body of work was working women, she started to implement traditional architectural elements in her paintings and installations. This eventually led her to pursue Interior Architecture and Design in San Francisco, 8,000 miles away from her homeland.

Developed from her travels, Alverina has always been fascinated with cities, particularly the interplay of land use and transportation in dense urban environments. During her Urban and Regional Planning graduate studies, she had opportunities to explore the importance of land use and transportation connectivity through various research projects discussing topics that range from transportation finance, new mobility policies, to greenhouse gas emissions potential of Climate Action Planning and Autonomous Vehicles. In addition to transportation research projects, Alverina obtained further training in real estate and community development through a certificate program at San Jose State University as well as writing a thesis on possible quality of life improvements in San Francisco's Rental Assistance Demonstration projects.

Alverina holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture and Design from the Academy of Art University and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree from San Jose State University, with a focus on Affordable Housing and Community Development Finance.
